Think About It
Weigh the risks. Run your pro/con analysis in your brain.
Imagine the opportunities you might miss if you don't take action. What if ONLY one thing I produce could’ve changed your life, but you passed up on the opportunity.
“There are costs and risks to a program of action, but they are far less than the long range risks and costs of comfortable inaction”
- John F. Kennedy
Why am I Doing This?
Early Beginnings
A couple years ago I was a senior attending Texas State University around $37,000 in debt. I was an aspiring physician; I’ll fast-forward. You don’t need to become a doctor to change the world. You can do so by changing people's ideas, providing knowledge, and offering mental frameworks.
It was an enlightening realization: maybe I didn't need to be half a million dollars in debt to find happiness in changing the world. But there I was, deep in debt.
So, I dropped out and became self-taught, devouring books, taking courses, and applying what I learned. What would I do with all this knowledge that suddenly seemed less relevant? Ironically, the most valuable skill I gained from college was the ability to learn independently. Eventually, I paid off my debt.
But let's go back. Why did I want to be a physician in the first place?
Closer To The Core
Complex concepts intrigue and excite me. It was an idea I was pursuing, but it became much more real when my mother was diagnosed with dedifferentiated liposarcoma. As the only one with the financial resources and ability to understand medical terminology, I became her caretaker. This was a challenging experience that taught me a lot about life. It brought knowledge, resilience, perspective, efficiency, and even a sense of beauty amidst hardship. My mom didn't finish high school; she got pregnant at 14. Yet, she taught me one of life's most valuable lessons: to find the positive in every situation. We continue to battle cancer together today.
When is Enough, Enough? (Probably Never)
There's a point in self-learning where you accumulate so much knowledge that you start to question its purpose. What is the point of knowing all of this? I had been a personal trainer with top-tier certifications in fitness and nutrition. I also delved into investments and financial concepts, applying them to my own life.
I felt like a balloon, inflated with knowledge, but the more I learned, the more disconnected I felt from those around me. It felt like my knowledge was working against me, as if being 'smart' was a disadvantage in connecting with others. No one seemed to understand the long-term vision, the 'why' behind investments, or the true value of fitness and nutrition. I was constantly teaching, but I realized I'm just one person with limited time. If I wanted to continue this insatiable quest for knowledge, I needed a platform to share it. That's where Substack comes in.
From Consumer To Producer
The decision to become a producer of content instead of just a consumer followed soon after, leading me to where I am today. By sharing my knowledge with the world, I could make a positive impact. And by making it free, I could ensure that everyone has access, regardless of their educational background or financial means.
